Bunscoil Niocláis

Our History

St. Mary’s Primary Schools were founded by the Daughters of Charity, who came to Dunmanway in 1884. Their first primary school was a one storey whitewashed building in the grounds of St. Patrick’s Church. This was later replaced by a more substantial building located behind St. Patrick’s Hall.
The present school was built in 1964 and officially opened in September 1965.

There are two schools on the campus:
St. Mary’s Infants School, which caters for boys and girls from junior infants to 1st class.

St. Mary’s Senior School, which caters for girls from 2nd to 6th class and for both girls and boys in two special educational needs classes.

These two schools and Scoil Phádraig Naofa have now amalgamated to become Bunscoil Niocláis.

Scoil Phádraig Naofa was established in 1896. It is an all boy’s school catering for pupils from 2nd to 6th class. The school was modernized and extended in 2008 to include a general purpose room, new classroom, resource room and staff room. There is a field attached to the school which is used as a playing pitch. The children also have a tarmac area where they play each day.

Scoil Phádraig Naofa is a Roman Catholic school which aims at promoting the full and harmonious development of the pupil. The school provides Religious education for the pupil in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. We also welcome to our school pupils of other denominations and we respect all other faiths.
